AMICALOLA FALLS STATE PARK
CHATTAHOOCHEE
NATIONAL FOREST
LEN FOOTE HIKE INN - NOVEMBER 12, 2000
The Len Foote Hike Inn is located in and around the
Amicalola Falls State Park and Chattahoochee National
Forest. It is targeted to hikers that enjoy
the wilderness but prefer a soft bed, hot showers, and
great food instead of backcountry camping.
The Inn was completed in the late 1990's,
and is
accessible only by foot over a moderate five mile
trail which originates at the top of the falls. The trail
is fairly easy and it crosses some small
streams and ridges on the way to the Inn. You can
combined it with the blue blazed Approach Trail and complete a loop hike back to
the Amicalola Falls (where the Len Foote Hike Inn parking area is located.)
This was our second trip to the Len Foote Hike Inn, and
this time we decided to hike in one direction and shuttle cars. On our
first day we followed the yellow blaze trail from Amicalola Falls to the Len
Foote Hike Inn, and on our second day we hiked the Approach and Appalachian
Trails across Springer Mountain and down to the U.S. Forest Service Road 42.
It's about a two hour drive from USFS 42 to Amicalola Falls State Park, so the
loop hike we completed on August 20, 1999
is definitely more convenient.
