HIGHLIGHTS:  The Linville Gorge Wilderness in the mountains of western North Carolina is part of the Pisgah National Forest and it covers 10,975 acres of dense hardwood and pine forest.  The gorge is formed by Jonas Ridge on the east and Linville Mountain on the west and it is bisected by The Linville River at 1,300 feet.  The terrain is extremely steep and rugged, and it rises to 4,120 feet at Gingercake Mountain, the highest point in Linville Gorge.
