HIGHLIGHTS:
This is the final section of the Appalachian Trail in New Hampshire for the
northbound hiker. Carter Notch Hut (3300') is about three miles from Wildcat
Mountain, and it is the last Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) hut in the system.
Gorham is fifteen miles north of here, and it is the final re-supply point
before entering the Mahoosuc Range at the New Hampshire /Maine border. The
Trail from Gorham, NH to Stratton, ME is arguably one of the toughest sections
on the A.T. It is rugged, rocky, and wild. However, there is significantly less
trail traffic here, and you are likely to enjoy the remoteness once again,
especially after traversing the heavily populated mountains of the Whites.
